Job description
About GACHA
GACHA is building a global consumer platform for trading cards and collectibles.
We combine e-commerce, gaming, marketplaces, and physical collectibles to create a new way for people to discover, collect, trade, and own the products they love.
Pricing is central to our business. We work with thousands of graded and ungraded trading cards across Pokémon, One Piece, and other collectible categories. Reliable pricing helps us decide what inventory to acquire, how to build our products, and what offers to give customers.
We’re looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to help build the data foundation behind our pricing systems.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain pipelines that collect pricing and sales data from marketplaces, APIs, auction results, and other external sources
- Clean and normalize inconsistent card data, including sets, card numbers, languages, editions, grading companies, and grades
- Develop systems to match the same collectible across multiple data sources
- Identify duplicate, missing, incorrect, manipulated, or anomalous pricing records
- Build practical pricing logic using recent sales, available listings, historical trends, and comparable cards
- Create internal datasets and tools that help the team evaluate inventory, product economics, and buyback prices
- Monitor data quality and the reliability of pricing outputs
- Maintain and operate the infrastructure that runs our data pipelines — uptime, scheduling, deployments, incident response
- Work closely with our founders, engineers, and collectibles operations team
- Pitch in on product engineering work when needed — we're a small team and responsibilities span beyond pricing and data
- Gradually help expand our pricing infrastructure into new collectible categories
What We’re Looking For
- Approximately 2+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, backend engineering, or a related role
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience building data pipelines and working with APIs, databases, and external datasets
- Experience with web scraping or browser automation
- Comfortable working with messy, incomplete, and inconsistent data
- Good judgment when designing practical systems without perfect information
- Able to investigate data issues independently and take ownership from problem to production
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment
- Willing to help with general product engineering tasks outside pure data work when the team needs it
- Located in, or able to work with, an Asian time zone
You do not need prior trading-card experience, but you should be genuinely interested in learning how collectible markets work.
Nice to Have
- Experience with marketplace, e-commerce, financial, or alternative-asset data
- Familiarity with entity resolution, fuzzy matching, anomaly detection, or time-series data
- Experience deploying scheduled pipelines and production data services
- Familiarity with Pokémon, One Piece, sports cards, or graded collectibles
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure and modern data warehouses
What Success Looks Like
In your first few months, you will:
- Create a reliable, structured source of trading-card pricing data
- Improve how accurately cards are matched across different marketplaces
- Make it easier for the team to understand the current market value of a card
- Reduce manual work involved in pricing inventory and building new products
- Establish monitoring that quickly surfaces missing, stale, or suspicious data
Why Join GACHA
- Take ownership of a commercially important system from an early stage
- Work on unusual, real-world data problems in a rapidly growing collectibles market
- See your work directly influence products, pricing, inventory, and customer offers
- Work remotely with a fast-moving international team
- Broad surface area — own infra, not just pipelines, and get exposure to product engineering
- Grow into broader ownership of pricing infrastructure and data systems as GACHA expands
